Late Paleozoic coarse-clastic deposits in NE Germany and W Poland: sedimentary facies and implications for the evolution of the Central European Basin System (CEBS)

Applicant Professor Dr. Christoph Breitkreuz
Subject Area Palaeontology
Term from 2006 to 2009
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 24000464

Project Description

The project deals with the coarse-clastic deposition in the central and eastern parts of the Southern Permian Basin (SPB) during the Rotliegend. In close cooperation with the Polish Geological Institute (Warsaw), detailed facies analysis on drill cores and interpretation of geophysical logs of drillings from north eastern Germany and western and north western Poland will be carried out. The project will include a PhD study and 2 MSc studies. The latter will deal with paleomagnetic measurements and with the correlation between closely spaced conglomeratic successions.
