The scientific goal of this project is to obtain a better understanding of photophysical processes in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) in order to enable further progress in that field. In particular, we are interested in understanding their impact on efficiency and lifetime and the transfer of these achievements to application. This requires the development of dedicated measurement and analysis tools, including numerical simulation, together with suitable processing conditions and taylor-made materials for tuning the photophysical properties of emitter systems and their implementation in OLEDs. We are aiming at both harvesting the potential for efficency improvement of OLEDs in the pristine state as well as reducing photophysical aging processes.
