This project investigates polymer-optical, planar sensor systems for distributed 2D strain measurement; the theoretical description and validation of all necessary components with regard to signal generation and transmission; as well as the design and implementation of sensor network arrays. The main scientific challenges lie in the realization of integrated sensor networks using PlanOS-components, data extraction from these sensors, the reproducibility and compatibility of all relevant production processes as well as the quantification and compensation of environmental influences for sensor calibration and to increase sensitivity.
