The genomic plasticity of Influenza A viruses (IAVs) enables them to quickly adapt to new circumstances and cross species barriers, thus causing epidemics and occasional pandemics. We want to (I) further elucidate in vitro and in vivo the interaction between the host cell factor NF-kB and genetically defined IAVs and (II) identify the IAV factors/functions rendering the virus sensitive to NF-kB inhibition. Part (III) will reveal the functional relevance of IAV-regulated protein kinase signalling networks and of phosphorylations of viral proteins.
