Project Details
Engineering aspects for tissue engineering of hyaline cartilage
Subject Area
Biological Process Engineering
Term
from 2012 to 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 231082117
The application is based on the project "Engineering aspects for tissue engineering of hyaline cartilage". Own results and literature show that the temporal and spatial formation of cartilage in vitro is not yet sufficiently understood, especially in comparison to cartilage formation in vivo. Within the proposed project it will be examined, whether the extent of physiological changes in the cartilage cells during cartilage formation (metabolic activity, gene expression, protein expression) and matrix properties (composition, biomechanical properties) can be detected and quantified, and related to each other. In particular, the question will be addressed whether the reasons for this are to be sought in a change in the state of differentiation of cells and / or an inadequate nutrient supply and metabolite removal of the cells. This concept can then be used to derive approaches for improved cultivation strategies.
