Molecular Mechanisms of Action of Adipokines (Z05 [C02]+)

Subject Area Biochemistry
Term from 2013 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 209933838

Project Description

Adipokines are released from adipose tissue and influence the metabolism of the whole organism. Several adipokines have been correlated with obesity, including adiponectin, TRIB1, osteocalcin and chemerin, which are further characterized in this project. However, little is known about their molecular mechanism of function. All proteins will be recombinantly expressed and/or synthesized in full or in part by solid-phase peptide synthesis. For crystal structure analyses large amounts of adipokines will be produced in this project. Chemically modified analogues will allow to perform localization studies and identify interacting partners by co-immunoprecipitation.
