This research proposal is mainly driven by two developments in wireless mesh networks. Firstly, new technologies for wireless communications allow data rates up to several GBit per second. For the efficient usage of these high data rates, frame aggregation at MAC layer is inevitable and leads to new research questions. Secondly, a rapid trend away from pure FTP-like traffic, towards video streaming is recognizable in mobile communication scenarios. Therefore, the goal of this research proposal is to quantitatively evaluate future wireless mesh networks with frame aggregation for multi-hop communication. To that end analytical/numerical stochastic models are developed for selected issues and validated with the results of extensive measurement studies in an indoor multi-hop mesh testbed, thus ensuring realistic results. Furthermore, the analysis of the configurable stochastic models allows generalizing the findings and further a sensitivity analysis of parameters towards interferences.
