Formation of Pattern and Shape in Confined Cellular Systems (B02)
Subject Area
Statistical Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Complex Systems, Soft and Fluid Matter, Biological Physics
Term
from 2012 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 201269156
We will develop a conceptual and quantitative understanding of self-organized protein pattern formation, as well as the dynamics of cells and tissues at the cellular and the intracellular level. To understand the response of cells to external stimuli and spatial confinement, we will use and further extend the Cellular Potts Model. In parallel, we will investigate the role of geometry, spatial organization, and molecular interactions for protein pattern formation. Moreover, we will extend our analysis towards mechano-chemical systems, where protein patterns affect the mechanics of their cellular confinement.
