Opposing regulation of surface polysaccharide biosynthesis and motility in Sinorhizobium meliloti (E05 (C05))

Subject Area Metabolism, Biochemistry and Genetics of Microorganisms
Term from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 192445154

Project Description

Switching between planktonic and surface-attached states is a wide-spread bacterial adaptation in response to environmental changes and involves opposing regulation of exopolysaccharide biosynthesis and motility. Nutrient limitation and quorum sensing are major factors driving the switch to surface adhesion and biofilm formation in Sinorhizobium meliloti. This project studies the interwoven architecture of the underlying regulatory network, which involves signaling by N-acyl homoserine lactone autoinducers and the second messenger 3',5'-cyclic diguanylic acid (c-di-GMP).
