Project Details
Environmental drivers of microbial community structure in termite guts (D09 (A03))
Subject Area
Microbial Ecology and Applied Microbiology
Term
from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 192445154
The composition of microbial communities in the hindgut of termites clearly reflects the diet of the respective host group. In the next project phase, we want to identify specific drivers of intestinal community structure and investigate the relationship between abiotic and biotic microenvironments in individual gut compartments using high-resolution analytical and molecular techniques. The adaptations in major microbial lineages to their particular ecological niches will be assessed both by physiological and genomic characterization of selected isolates and by metagenomic approaches.
