Steps to clinical xenogeneic cardiac replacement (C08)

Subject Area Cardiac and Vascular Surgery
Immunology
Term from 2012 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 213602983

Project Description

Successful preclinical orthotopic pig-to-baboon procedures depend on: (i) stable genetic modifications, (ii) continuous non-ischemic perfusion techniques, (iii) clinically acceptable immunosuppression based on humanised non-thrombogenic anti-CD40/CD40L antibodies and (iv) omitting intrinsic (genetically derived) donor organ overgrowth using mTOR inhibitor rapamycin derivate or genetically-modified minipig breeds. Long-term results will be necessary but also provide in-depth knowledge of the various steps.
