Οptimal (in some sense) conformal realizations of abstract Riemann surfaces are commonly sought after in the mathematical literature (e.g. conformal Willmore minimizers). In order to numerically realize such surfaces by computational methods, one needs to properly discretize the relevant notions of conformality and conformal transformations. Discrete conformal deformations of surface meshes tend to preserve fine geometric details, meshing quality and thus find applications in modeling/design for computer graphics. This project will aim to develop a discrete theory for conformality for triangular meshes, preserving ideas from the smooth theory and enabling efficient algorithms for applications.
