Despite the extensive influence of North (U.S.) American music on 20th and 21st century music history there exists as of yet no monograph in the German language that focuses on the diversity and abundance of North American music since its beginnings. Conceived by a musicologist and an American studies scholar, this book project intends to close this gap by presenting historical and structural turning points of North American music. The authors also look at the transatlantic exchange between Europe and USA, the changing European perspective on American music, and mutual cultural perceptions and prejudices. Combining methods both of musicology and cultural history, the book addresses a broad audience and claims to serve as a future benchmark for German readers interested in the field.
