Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 133733460
To investigate the potential of UHBR engines with boundary layer ingestion, preliminary thermodynamic design models as well as detailed aerodynamic analyses of the associated fan stage with asymmetric boundary layer ingestion were carried out during the second funding period. A significant change in the radial flow structure in the fan as well as an efficiency reduction was identified. In addition, a significant phase shift of the inflow disturbance was observed for the stator inflow. MKS Simpack models were able to show the strong influence of the engine installation effects. In the third funding period, design methods for an inflow-tolerant fan with improved radial load redistribution in the rotor shall be developed and experimentally validated. Furthermore, meaningfully-adapted definitions for perturbation coefficients shall be developed to better characterize flow phenomena.
