The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is increasing worldwide. Changes in lifestyle and health behaviour can reduce the progression of type 2 diabetes as well as related disorders in recently diagnosed individuals. However, little is known about predictors and long-term outcomes of health behaviour change among individuals with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes. The aim of this project is to examine predictors and long-term outcomes of objectively measured and self-reported health behaviour change (physical activity, dietary, medication adherence and smoking cessation), its impact on metabolic risk and its association with self-rated health and well-being among people with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus under randomised controlled multi-factorial individually-tailored behaviour change intervention with five years of follow-up in general care practice setting.
