Project Description

The symmetries and long-range dynamics of light quarks are manifest in the complex excitation spectra of hadrons. In particular, the excitations of protons and neutrons are at the center of this project. The detailed study of spin degrees of freedom in meson photoproduction at several research facilities will allow for a description of these processes with unprecedented completeness and precision in the near future. New partial wave analyses with a significantly reduced model dependence will then be possible. This project is devoted to the performance, analysis, and interpretation of dedicated experiments at the accelerators MAMI/Mainz, ELSA/Bonn and BEPC-II/Beijing. These measurements are the basis for partial wave analyses and the identification and characterisation of baryon resonances.
