Polarizabilities ((04) S02)
Subject Area

Term
from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 204404729
Electromagnetic structure of hadrons and nuclei is described by elastic form factors and polarizabilities, or generally, the structure functions. Precise knowledge of these structure quantities for the nucleon and light nuclei is currently in high demand in view of the recent breakthrough in muonic-atom spectroscopy. Our mission is to advance the knowledge of nucleon and deuteron polarizabilities and structure functions using the unique capacity of the MAMI facility to perform high-precision Compton and electron-scattering experiments with polarized beams and targets. The experimental program is strongly supported by the theory group in providing systematic frameworks for interpretation of these experiments and evaluation of their impact on atomic spectroscopy.
