Cerebral network dysfunction in patients with hepatic encephalopathy (B07)

Subject Area Clinical Neurology; Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology
Term from 2012 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 190586431

Project Description

The current pathophysiological concept of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) postulates that alterations of cerebral networks lead to the clinically diverse motor, cognitive and sensory symptoms of HE. In order to better understand the mechanisms of these network alterations, neurophysiological investigations (TMS-EEG, MEG) and MR spectroscopy will be performed in patients with HE to provide insights into in vivo changes of GABAergic and glutamatergic neurotransmission as well as the regional cerebral content of ammonia, neurotransmitters and other neurometabolites
