Control of magnetic domains and domain walls by thermal gradients (C11)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2012 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 32152442

Project Description

In the project we study how magnetic domains and domain walls can be controlled by temperature gradients. By illumination of laser light in form of an interference pattern of a ns-laser pulse or by focused cw- and fs-laser local temperature gradients are created which induce changes in the magnetic domain configuration. By comparison of the effect of different illumination schemes and simulations of the resulting temperatures the mechanisms leading to changes in the domain structure shall be identified.
