Coherent and incoherent dynamics in quantum dot - semiconductor optical amplifiers (QD-SOA) and novel gain media (A07)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2012 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 43659573

Project Description

The objective of this proposal is a deeper understanding of the coherent and incoherent dynamics in QD-SOAs and novel semiconductor gain media under current injection. Quantum dots, quantum wells and stacks of submonolayers will be studied to identify and optimize bound and scattering states and carrier pathways, and to investigate the influence of the dimensionality of the structures on the carrier dynamics. The limits of device performance will be explored by studying coherent light-matter interaction and noise in the classical and quantum regimes in SOAs under operating conditions.
