Custom-synthesis of conjugated organic molecules and transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers (Z01)

Subject Area Physical Chemistry of Solids and Surfaces, Material Characterisation
Term from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 182087777

Project Description

On the one hand, this project will synthesize specific conjugated organic molecules for various projects within the CRC. Molecules that will primarily be targeted include various pyrene and rylene derivatives as well as donor/acceptor molecules ranging from neutral viologen derivatives to fluorinated tetracyanoquinodimethanes. Selected molecules will be equipped with thiol anchoring groups for chemisorption on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). On the other hand, high-quality TMDC monolayers will be grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD), transferred to appropriate substrates, and pre-characterized, for the subsequent use by numerous CRC projects.
