Project B5 aims at exploring coupling mechanisms and ultrafast nonequilibrium dynamics of low-energy excitations in HIOS in the range from 5 to several hundreds of meV. Applying methods of nonlinear time- and phase-resolved terahertz spectroscopy, coupled plasmon-phonon excitations of molecules on heavily doped ZnO and interactions of dipolar molecules with intersubband excitations in doped semiconductor quantum wells will be studied. Such hybrid excitations are expected to result in novel linear and nonlinear optical properties which are of interest for applications in optoelectronics.
