In this project two different but related realisations of laser-field interactions with two-centre Coulomb systems will be studied: laser-assisted ion-atom collisions and the fragmentation of diatomic molecules in intense fields: i.e., laser-induced half-collisions. The treatment will be based in both cases on a nonperturbative, quantal description of the electrons and a classical description of the nuclei. Emphasis will be given to a detailed analysis of the role of the electron-electron interaction in many-electron systems from the perspective of time-dependent density functional theory. The study is expected to shed light on time-dependent one- and many-electron dynamics and, in particular, on their possible manipulation and ¿ ultimately ¿ control by suitable laser fields.
