Project Details
Designing spin-spin interactions in cold ion crystals (A10)
Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
from 2011 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 31867626
Crystals of cold trapped ions show properties which are making them an ideal system for simulating spin interactions. In such model systems we aim for realizing Hamiltonians with relevance for solid state systems. One project part aims for designing spin-spin interactions in one- and two-dimensional ion crystals via magnetic gradient ¿elds, generated by an integrated planar ion trap device, while in a second project part interactions of magnetically trapped ultra-cold bosonic atoms with ion crystals are employed, where both species are held in a planar trap.
