Project Details
Analyses of the RNA polymerase I (Pol I) machinery: specific transcriptional mechanisms and comparison with other RNA polymerases (A01)
Subject Area
Biochemistry
Term
from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 185476941
RNA polymerase I (Pol I) is a specialized enzyme which transcribes the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes in all eukaryotes investigated so far. This project aims to unravel specific features of the Pol I machinery and to gain more insights into the mechanism of Pol I dependent transcription elongation and termination. Analyses of how structural and functional differences between the three eukaryotic nuclear RNA polymerases influence transcription of various nucleoprotein templates will be continued on a molecular level and will include Pol I mutants and templates of higher complexity.
