In vivo analysis of active zone assembly (A03)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2011 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 184695641

Project Description

Aim of the project is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the scaffolding processes, which control design and functional organization of synaptic active zones (AZs). We could previously define the early assembly sequence, including Syd-1, UNC13B, Neurexins, Neuroligins and Spinophilin. Now we plan to analyse a) the mechanisms forming AZ scaffold precursor vesicles, including origin and identity of presynaptic transport vesicles (TVs) and b) local incorporation of biosynthetic precursor material delivered through TVs into the AZ, with special attention on the cytoskeleton components.
