In project B4 we model non-equilibrium phenomena in stronglycorrelated materials, focusing on systems with a strong coupling of charge, spin, and orbital degrees of freedom. We will study how many-body interactions can be controlled by light, and how this can be used to manipulate complex phases like superconductivity (with B7). Furthermore, we will investigate the role of non-local fluctuations and spatial inhomogeneity on in the relaxation after photo-induced transitions (collaboration with B2 and B3) and in cold atom experiments (C3). To solve the relevant microscopic models like the multi-orbital Hubbard model we will further develop methodologies based on the nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory (collabora-tion with B5), while density functional theory is used for material-specific predictions related to the experiments in B2, B3, B6, and B7.
