Main topic of project A8 is the simulation of microstructure during solidification based on thermochemical databases taking convection into account. Simulation of convection is done by using directly Navier-Stokes equations or as alternatively by a Lattice Boltzmann model. So, exact information about the microstructure, the grain boundaries, segregation maps, precipitates and ductility will be created. Depending on the Al content high Mn steels solidify only as a y-phase or as two phases (y + 8). Especially in MBIP materials the peritectic transformation at the end of solidification is expected. The local deformation will be modeled by using a micromechanical continuum model.
