Project Details
Core project 7: Arthropods and arthropod-related processes
Subject Area
Ecology and Biodiversity of Plants and Ecosystems
Term
since 2011
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 194004034
Within the framework of the core projects, Core Project 7 Arthropods and arthropod-related processes (in short: Arthropods) provides long-term monitoring data from all forest and grassland experimental plots on (a) the abundance and diversity of arthropods and (b) arthropod-related ecosystem processes. We expand our monitoring of the responses of arthropods and processes in the joint multi-site experiments in forest (FOX) and grassland (REX, LUX). Arthropods also coordinates the Biodiversity Exploratory Long-term Deadwood Experiment (BELongDead). As a further service, Arthropods intensifies its efforts to compile and provide functional trait databases across different invertebrate taxa, to facilitate trait analyses and syntheses. Long-term monitoring of arthropods is crucial for multiple synthesis efforts, and continuously contributed to cross-taxa analyses. Based on the unique highly replicated dataset from forests and grasslands, we will investigate and synthesize spatio-temporal dynamics of communities and land-use impacts in more detail such as effects by different mowing regimes and machines. To foster an understanding of such impacts, we will conduct a workshop on grassland management, including experts and stakeholders.
