Project Details
Multi-scale pattern simulation and parameterization of convection over heterogeneous land surfaces (D06)
Subject Area
Atmospheric Science
Term
from 2011 to 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 15232683
We study convection and convective cloud patterns in order to understand how land-surface heterogeneity affects such patterns and how they can be parameterized. The large-eddy atmosphere and land-surface model (LES-ALM) will be further developed and run for surfaces with different heterogeneity scales. The model capability in reproducing convective clouds in response to land-surface processes will be tested against measurements. A scheme for cloud pattern parameterization will be developed and tested in a weather-prediction model for selected regions.
