The main objective of this project is to develop a simulation tool for the investigation of abrasive wear. The fluid is discretized with the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method, the solid particles depending on the length scale with the Discrete Element Method (DEM), or with a transport equation to reduce the computational time. The grid-free models for the coarse and fine scale are coupled with a grid-based method. With the developed models, a virtual test bench is developed for analyzing abrasive wear, therefore load spectra of typical load cases are applied.
