Over the past years we have performed a series of constrained simulations of the local universe. We propose to extent this research based on the next generation of constrained simulations. Main focus is to address the question how unique the Local Group is. We employ constrained simulations as a numerical laboratory for near-field cosmological that allows us to study the complex interplay of dark matter an gas dynamical processes and to compare our numerical models with the detailed observations of our cosmological neighborhood. We plan to improve the set-up of constrained random fields and to perform a series of new local universe simulations in order to systematically investigate the effects of different feedback descriptions as well as numerical resolution issues.
