The required stability of magnetic fields for low field magnetic resonance experiments and biomagnetic measurements requires the development of precise magnetometers. The goal of this project is to build a miniaturized atomic Cs magnetometer. For that we will set up robust and compact sensor heads and an optimized electronic and laser unit. Using a new laser and polarization maintaining monomode fibers we will try to increase the amplitude and frequency stability of the light and reduce the magnetometer noise by an order of magnitude. This will be verified in measurements of the base line drift in typical magnetic fields. The improved system shall be used for biomagnetic measurements in the shielded room BMSR-2 at PTB Berlin.
