Epitaxial graphene layers on SiC will be functionalized and their electronic structure tailered. The carbon layers will be decoupled by intercalation of metallic and non-metallic elements and thus modified in a dedicated fashion. Highly doped graphene layers, super lattice potentials and metal contacts are the goals of the project. In addition we prepare graphene nanostructures by growing graphene on pre-patterned SiC substrates or by cutting trenches in graphene layers by catalytic etching.
