Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 172116086
The surface has a decisive influence on the functionality and lifetime of components. In the collaborative research center CRC 926, scientists from mechanical engineering, process engineering, and surface physics investigate manufacturing, characterization, and application of component surfaces with specific functionali-ties. The research is focused on the morphology of the surfaces on the microscale, where the morphology is defined by the geometrical shape (topography), and the microstructural and physico-chemical properties of the surface. The research in CRC 926 aims at establishing relations between the manufacturing process, the component surface morphology, and the component’s properties. Such relations enable designing and manufacturing components with desired properties based on new features of the component surface mor-phology on the microscale.CRC 926 is organized in a matrix structure with the project areas:• Modeling and simulation• Manufacturing and experimental characterization• Applications • Transfer (joint research with industrial partners)and the focus areas:• Micro-structuring of component surfaces • Particles at component surfaces• Phase transformations at component surfaces. The scientific research in CRC 926 aims at creating innovation in the industrial manufacturing and application of components for which the key is the morphology of their surface on the microscale.
