Characterization and identification of osteoporotic animal models ((18) T01)

Subject Area Orthopaedics, Traumatology, Reconstructive Surgery
Term from 2010 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 107540325

Project Description

The aim of T1 is to provide comprehensive understanding of osteoporosis - caused changes to the skeletal system. Therefore, osteoporosis in male rats will be induced to characterize its effect as a complimentary to previously characterized female animal models. Furthermore, T1 shall generate knockout rat models of Lipoprotein receptor Type 5/6 and Cadherin to understand their role in achieving osteoporotic bone phenotype reciprocal to the earlier generated Sclerostin and Dickkopf-1 transgenic rats. T1 shall further improve sample processing methodology to reduce numbers of experimental animals, enhance sample quality and imaging to increase sample availability for the collaborative subprojects.
