The main object of this project is the improvement of Laccase-Mediator-Systems for the production of binder- and formaldehydefree wood fiber composites by using immobilised Laccases. An immobilisation of Laccase as primary step in fiberboard making offers ecological and economical opportunities. The Laccase enzyme will not remain within the wood composites like before, but it will be reuseable several times. The immobilised Laccase works as a catalyst, which oxidizes the Mediator. The oxidised Mediator then takes the role for the activiation of the wood fibers surface lignin. The application of immobilised Laccases is seen as an important milestone for the industrial production of wood fiber composites without conventional, petrochemical binder systems. The know-how of DFG-project EU 124/2-1 will be directly transfered to the applied project.
