Taking advantage of ligand sets jointly developed and utilised previously for symmetrical dinuclear and trinuclear ligand-bridged mixed-valent systems we intend to introduce various degrees of asymmetry via modified bridging ligands or asymmetrically arranged co-ligands in order to study the valence exchange in non-degenerate systems. These investigations will involve mixed-valence isomers and the analysis of directed flow of charge and electrons on excitation or (electro)chemically induced electron transfer. New complexes of ruthenium or osmium and less common unsaturated ligands involving N, O and S donor atoms will be synthesised, characterised and investigated with spectroscopic, (spectro)electrochemical and magnetic resonance techniques. The results which will extend the existing highly productive cooperation between the partners are expected to be of significance for molecular electronic concepts.
