Non-Destructive Characterization of Coating and Material Conditions of Severely Stressed Turbine Components (A01)

Subject Area Coating and Surface Technology
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 119193472

Project Description

In order to plan and budget necessary repairs of aero-engine components at an early stage, the development of electromagnetic and thermographic testing methods that allow for a fast fault detection and material characterization of the turbine- and compressor-blades (rotor and stator) already in a partially disassembled state of the engine are intended. The application of newly-developed repair technologies leads to unknown changes of the repaired components mechanical properties. Therefore, the development of a test rig for the non-destructive online detection and characterization of the damage evolution under thermal and cyclical loads is also intended.
