Impact of supercooled droplets onto cold surfaces (C03)

Subject Area Energy Process Engineering
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 84292822

Project Description

The impact of supercooled water drops onto cold surfaces is examined experimentally, theoretically and numerically. Based on experimental observations, theoretical models for the description of the separate processes such as drop impact, nucleation and solidification close to a solid wall are derived and validated by means of numerical simulations; aimed at combining the models into a prediction of the entire process. Moreover, the results obtained from the examination of the individual sub-processes will be used for further investigations involving drop impact under the influence of a shear flow.
