Project Details
Investigation of the behavior of supercooled droplets concerning evaporation, con-densation and freezing at different boundary conditions (B01)
Subject Area
Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 84292822
The focus of TP-B1 lies on processes with droplets in atmospheric clouds. The ambient conditions are well below the freezing point of water. On the microscale of the droplet the understanding of these processes, for instance evaporation, freezing, or sublimation, their parametrization, and the link to the macro physical system, i.e. the whole cloud, is essential for the development of meteorological models. Analytical, numerical, and experimental methods are used in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the processes. The studies on single droplets will be extended, e.g. by taking the influence of neighboring droplets into account.
