The concept is the synthesis, isolation and structure elucidation of chiral seleniranium salts, which are discussed as key intermediates in the asymmetric synthesis with optically active electrophilic selenium reagents Ar*Se+ X- by addition on prochiral olefins like styrene or ß-methylstyrene. Experiments are planned for preparation, crystallisation and X-ray structure analysis of telluriranium salts with reactions of RTe+ BF4- and bulky olefins like bisadamantyliden. The bonding state in the three-membered rings of selenirenium and seleniranium salts should be characterised by experimentally derived charge density distribution from high resolution X-ray diffraction data. Appropriate anions composed of light elements are FB(C6F5)3- and B(C6F5)4-.
