Organization and function of SNARE domains (11)
Subject Area
Biochemistry
Term

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 112927078
The plasmalemmal SNARE proteins syntaxin 1A and SNAP25 mediate vesicle fusion. Surprisingly, the large majority of proteins is not part of fusion complexes but present in nano-clusters that are organized in a network. In the working program we plan (i) to investigate the anatomy and the dynamics of the network in biological membranes and in a minimalistic system, (ii) test how the network can be altered, and (iii) identify sites in the network at which vesicle fusion occurs. The results will elucidate the mechanisms that form the protein landscape in biological membranes.
