Specific interactions of lipids with protein transmembrane segments (01)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 112927078

Project Description

Membrane lipids not only serve as structural components of membranes but are also important modulators of protein function. Based on our observation of a specific protein-sphingolipid interaction, which modulates the protein’s activity, we will continue to identify and characterize non-covalent interactions of lipids with membrane proteins. In addition, we will focus on cholesteroylated proteins as covalent protein-lipid interactions. We will study molecular mechanisms and functions of this rare type or protein lipidation. Both projects are supported by mass spectrometric analyses of lipids, and we will continue our work towards the comprehensive analysis of lipids from biological sources.
