Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 80053741
The project aims to the synthesis and systematic investigation of the self-assembly of T-shaped and X-shaped low molecular weight polyphilic molecules in aqueous systems and the investigation of the interaction with phospholipide model membranes. For this purpose new T- and X-shaped polyphiles with extended hydrophilic units will be synthesized. The aggregation of these polyphiles in aqueous systems will be investigated over a broad concentration range from micellar solutions via lyotropic LC phases to swollen and solvent-free thermotropic LC systems. The development of the superstructures depending on the molecular structure will be studied systematically. The effects of these polyphiles on phospholipide model membranes, such as compartmentalization and formation of pores, are of special interest. Relations between molecular structure, superstructures in aqueous systems and membrane modifying effects will be systematically investigated.
