Subject Area

Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 104405829
Active Lewis pairs contain donor and acceptor atoms, which are connected by relatively weak bonding interactions. Cleavage of these bonds results in the formation of molecules with coordinatively unsaturated Lewis acidic and basic centers, which cause a unique reactivity with the coordination or cooperative activation of various substrates. Three examples may illustrate their promising properties: (i) They are able to activate carbon-hydrogen bonds which currently is a highly interesting research field. (ii) The simultaneous formation of two carbon-carbon bonds was observed upon treatment with an isocyanate. (iii) Oligomerisation or polymerisation reactions with polar monomers succeeded under mild reaction conditions already below room temperature.
