International Collaboration in Chemistry: Carbenes as Stabilizing and Activating Agents in Boron, Carbon and Phosphorus Chemistry
Applicant
Professor Dr. Gernot Frenking
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2009 to 2013
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 147276121
In this cooperative project, new compounds with unusual bonding situations will be synthesized and they will be calculated with quantum chemical methods. The focus is on molecules where small species such as mono- or diatomic carbon, P4, or low-coordinated boron-nitrogen compounds are stabilized by carbenes. The computational part is important to understand the electronic structure of the molecules and as a guideline for the experimental work. The goal of the combined theoretical/experimental research is the isolation of novel molecules with unusual bonds which are promising compounds for material sciences and hydrogen storage.
