Corpus-Based Semantic Composition Models for Phrases (A03)
Subject Area
General and Comparative Linguistics, Experimental Linguistics, Typology, Non-European Languages
Term
from 2009 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 75650358
A3’s investigations have firmly established the importance of semantic relations for the interpretation of different linguistic units, ranging from explicit and implicit discourse connectives to compounds. In the new project phase, the study of word and discourse semantics will be complemented with the study of the semantics of phrases. The aim is to arrive at a better understanding of phrasal semantics by investigating models of semantic composition for adjective-noun phrases and prepositional phrases. The computational modeling will use distributional word representations and deep learning methods, and will be evaluated on tasks such as semantic relation classification.
