Project B1 is following the "Eastern Trajectory" of the Out-of-Africa 2 migration from Africa into western Eurasia. Geo-archaeological fieldwork has been carried out in selected key areas across the region aiming to better understand the archaeological, palaeoenvironmenal and palaeoclimatic evolution of the last ca. 50 ka. Next to the completion of ongoing fieldwork during the next CRC-806 phase, the focus will be on correlating past human occurrences in the study area with palaeogeographic determinants (precipitation, altitude, etc.) and its spatial distribution This will be done in close collaboration with the D1 project reconstructing past conditions that allowed Homo sapiens to further disperse into Europe.
