The non-invasive quantification of leaf and root surface area at meaningful time intervals is a very good proxy for plant growth and biomass accumulation and hence an important aspect of a precise description of the plant phenotype. Based on our specific expertise to quantify plant growth processes and other aspects of the plant phenotype at relatively high throughput and with the necessary precision, we will analyse the performance of several plant lines under defined environmental regimes. The aim of this subproject is to perform and provide standardized phenotyping procedures for lines from the entire consortium and to elucidate the ecological significance of photorespiratory pathways for growth and biomass productivity via integrative analysis of a range of plant species and plant lines.
